No surprise tonight as the honor goes to who else but Moscow’s favorite son, Alexander Ovechkin. Ovechkin scored not 1, not 2, but 3 goals for his first career post-season hat trick becoming the first Capitals player to do so since Al Lafrate in 1993. Although 1993 doesn’t seem all that long ago, Ovechkin was only 7-years-old at the time.
All three goals were spectacular as Ovechkin beat Fleury with two laser one timers and a wicked top-shelf wrist shot to send the Verizon center into a frenzy. Ovechkin was obviously named first star of the game and now has 4 goals in two games giving him a total of 7 in the post season alongside 11 points. Below are each of his goals courtesy of the NHL.
