On Wednesday, the NHL will honor it’s best at the annual award show at the Palms Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. Yours truly will be on hand for FRWG’s first big league event and will hopefully be able to land a few minutes with the athletes that matter most to you.

In case you didn’t know which Russian is up for which award here is a quick rundown. Ilya Bryzgalov of the Phoenix Coyotes is up for his first trophy of his career, that of course being the Vezina which is awarded to the league’s best goalkeeper. Bryz who posted a 2,29 goals against and notched 42 wins will be up against Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils and Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres.

Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings is back to defend his Lady Byng and Selke Trophy awarded for sportsmanship and best offensive defensmen respectively. Datsyuk will be looking for his fifth straight Byng and his third straight Selke. He will be going against Brad Richards and Martin St.Louis for the Byng and Ryan Kesler and Jordan Staal for the Selke.

The biggest prize of them all will also feature a Russian-born player who you might have heard of named Alexander Ovechkin. Known to many as Ovie and to me as Sasha, Ovechkin will be defending his Hart(MVP by the league) and the Ted Lindsay(formerly the Pearson and the MVP as voted by the players) having won both in the past two years.

Ovechkin will be pitted against Sidney Crosby and Henrik Sedin who has already won the Rocket Richard for most points, a trophy won by Ovie the past two years.

Stay with us to see what goes down tomorrow via our twitter and facebook live from the Palms.
