San Jose Feeds Nabokov to the Free Agency Sharks

It appears Evgeni Nabokov’s tenure with the San Jose Sharks is over as the team announced today on their website that the cap prevents them from reaching an agreement. The 34-year-old keeper has been one of the top goalies in the league the past few years, winning an NHL-best 131 games over the past three seasons. He has a 293-215-29 record in 10 seasons with the Sharks, with a 2.39 goals against average.

The Sharks have opted to invest in their future instead of dealing the big bucks to a player who despite putting up great numbers is aging. They could look foolish if they offer Nabokov a big contract only to see him lose steam in a few years. Where will Nabby end up?

Based on teams that need a proven no.1 his options could include Edmonton, Dallas, Atlanta, and Tampa. Granted none of these sound appealing and time will tell after July first. Below is one of the most memorable moments for the Sharks former no.20 when he became the first keeper in history to score a power-play.
