It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Alexander Semin is playing so well this season. The great 28, who is in a contract year, is having a career year having notched 29 points, so far. Certainly playing for a well-deserved contract come 2011, Alexander Semin exploded on both Tampa goalies today at the Verizon Center routing the Lightning, 6-0. It only took a total of 4 minutes and 29 seconds in the 2nd period Semin to notch his 3rd hat-trick of the season and 6th overall for his career.
Semin blasted a one-timer past Mike Smith off a beautiful cross-ice feed from Marcus Johansson. His next two goals came on the power play on almost identical looking plays. Alexander Ovechkin controlled the puck at the point, dished it to Nicklas Backstrom, who then fed it directly across to Semin who sniped it in the back of the net. Semyon Varlamov recorded a 16 save shutout in his second game since returning from injury.
This is the 3rd time Semin has been honored as Comrade of the Night and I can assure you it won’t be his last. Below are Semin’s goals from today’s game as well as his ever so charming post game interview.
