On Thursday, Avalanche netminder (and friend of the blog) Semyon Varlamov had a game for the ages. Varly stopped 57 of 60 shots to lead Colorado over Carolina breaking his own franchise record for most saves in a game. The 29-year-old turned away 22 shots in both the first and third periods along 16 in the second. The record setting performance comes on the heels of letting up 7 goals on 21 shots before being pulled against Vegas. Varlamov last set a franchise record in 2015 with a 54-save performance against Chicago.
The Avalanche were so ecstatic about such an effort from the Samara native they even borrowed our name as a tagline.
